into an all-woman's salsa class, turns out the lights and starts shooting. cheryl conner with what she's learned. >> reporter: the victims were dancing before finding themselves in the middle of a dark room where at least 50 gunshots were fired. by the time the gunman was finished four people were dead including himself, at least 10 others injured. the state police superintendent in allegheny county held a news conference this morning. he said the gunman used a gym bag to carry in two handguns. he swiped his membership card before walking into a latin dance class. sources telling local reporters one of the victims was the gunman's ex-girlfriend. she was shot in the thigh. >> he knew exactly where he was going and pulled the guns out and started shooting. >> i helped carry the one girl out. she got shot in her thigh and she kept saying she was going to die. yeah, it's crazy stuff. i can't believe it. i'm just in shock. i don't know what to think of it. >> reporter: one of the

wounded is an aerobics instructor who just told her class she's pregnant. detectives are still working to identify all the victims this morning. coming up in 15 minutes you'll hear from one man who helped the woman believed to be the gunman's ex-girlfriend. and what authorities say they found in his duffel bag. cheryl conner, abc2 news. it's home sweet home for two journalists released from a north korean prison, on their way back to the united states and their families couldn't be happier. >> kiss her, kick her butt and hand her back to her husband. >> why kick her butt? >> well, why kick her butt? for sometimes overenthusiasm, because they are so passionate towards their job. >> yesterday former president bill clinton traveled to north korea to secure the release of laura ling and euna lee and the three then jumped on a plane back to l.a. let's go there live. we have our camera posted here. this is at the burbank airport. they are not going to lax, they are going to burbank just north of l.a. now.

we hear that it's going to be any time between now and what, 8:30 this morning? sabrina? about 8:45? any time between 6:45 and 8:30 is when they are expected to land. we'll have full coverage here on abc2. back here in maryland now. there was a theft in a montgomery county saks fifth avenue and police have pictures of the suspect, but one problem. police can't figure out if it's a he or a she. you take a look. they say the suspect grabbed a chanel dress worth about $2,400. somehow the suspect got the security tags off and then took off. they are hoping to get these images out and not only help them make an arrest but also determine if it's a man or woman. governor martin o'malley getting on board with baltimore's controversial red line/light rail project. the red line calls for a 14-mile track to run east-to-west from johns hopkins bayview to woodlawn. the project has seen its share of opposition. despite the governor's support, yesterday was no different

tradition? they have been patrolling our streets now for 121 years but now the city council is slashing funding and the mounted patrol is running out of money to feed and board its six horses. officers say the patrol is not only an important crime-fighting tool but also a key part in community relations. >> you can't pet a patrol car. but you can pet a horse. and in some of the communities that we walk around we find that people will actually come up to our horses and pet them and as they are petting them will let us know different things that are going on in the area. >> police spokesman says they are hoping to raise $200,000 in private donations with the help of the baltimore police foundation. drivers are getting younger and younger. we have proof. buckle up your seat belts. we're going to take you on a wild ride with a 7-year-old behind the wheel and you're looking at it. you guessed right. all caught on tape. some parents try once again to keep towson catholic high school open. i'm sherrie johnson, i'll tell

by the way. apparently this kid was going faster than 40 miles per hour. this video is posted on youtube but was taken down quickly and police are out there looking for the kid and the family. the dog is found safe and sound after going missing nine years ago. muffy somehow vanished from his family's home and animal cruelty prevention organization was investigating a possible case of animal abuse at a home 1,200 miles away and found muffy sleeping on a cardboard in the backyard. the owners of that house say they found the dog about a year ago wandering along a street. a microchip in the dog's neck identified owners and the dog is now being returned. it's the law. any business needs a permit. and an approved location, 7-year-old found out this the hard way. a girl wanted to raise money to go to disney when the stand got shut down by the city but that turned out to be sweet after all. after seeing her story in the

local paper a local radio station gave her family a four-day pass to disneyland in exchange for 30 glasses of lemonade. how about that? blame gucci and the team in whitemarsh. the reisterstown express went to georgetown, delaware. the putty hill panthers are heading to puerto rico! what the young athletes hope to bring back to baltimore county to make us all proud.

good morning. i'm jamie costello. justin berk has the weather. kim is paving the way to work. but first these stories. towson catholic try one more time to stay open. time is running out. and more about those who lost their lives in last week's helicopter crash. and new details from pittsburgh where a gunman kills women working out at a health club. that and more leading up to "good morning america" at 7:00. now the weather with justin. 6:44. i want to start with rock hall on the eastern shore, they are reporting sticky 77 degrees on the thermometer. just about everybody else on this side of the bay, within a

few degrees of 70. south south perry hall and westminster. 73 reisterstown and glen burnie. it doesn't feel that great outside. we should normally be 87, we'll be close today. 104 and a little heat wave this time in 1930. 72 degrees currently in baltimore. not going to get up to record territory though it will feel rather sticky. we've only had a handful of days reaching around 90 degrees and we'll get close today as well. a little patchy fog around the region, notice the haze in the sky, the satellite looks worse than it is. we pump in more heat and humidity and build in more storms this afternoon. our forecast model showing storms in the mountains and in through northern new jersey. better shot of rain for the afternoon commute. 6:30, around the beltway and on the eastern shore. more showers by 10:30 this evening. here's the setup for today -- our two-degree guarantee 85 degrees. feeling like 90 but some storms

started shooting. this happened last night at the l.a. fitness center outside pittsburgh city limits. cheryl conner now with the worst. >> reporter: overnight details point to a possible motive of the gunman going after his ex-girlfriend. she was shot but survived. nearly 70 people were in the gym when the gunman fired off at least 50 rounds after 8:00 last night. police say in just a few minutes the gunman was dead along with three victims, all of them female. we're getting more information on a note that was in the man's bag. police will not disclose what it said but say the man had no intentions of leaving the gym alive. listen now to a witness who says he helped out the gunman's ex-glendale. ex-glendale -- ex-girlfriend. >> she got shot in the leg, bleeding a lot. i think it was an ex-boyfriend. she kept saying he's going to kill me. >> i was one of the last ones coming out of the building. i was right there. >> reporter: the victims were

in a latin dance class when they saw the lights go out and flash of gunfire. one of the wounded was an aerobics instructor who just announced she's pregnant. this morning the medical examiner is working to identify the victims. we may learn later today exactly what led the man to go on a shooting spree. cheryl conner, abc2 news. it's over. after five long months journalists laura ling and euna lee are in the air and about ready to touch down. want to show you video of lawyer's dad doug ling arriving at the airport and of course reporters swarmed him. the women are on their way home with former president bill clinton and they were released following a rare meeting between kim jong il and president clinton. then kim pardoned the women. live at burbank airport here, not lax. we're hearing reports that the plane could land any time between now and 8:30 this morning. "good morning america" will be live. former vice president al gore is among the dignitaries out here at burbank.

"good morning america" will have live full coverage of the journalists coming back to the united states. now to video you'll only see on abc2. cameras rolling early this morning at the scene of this apparent hit-and-run in downtown baltimore. crews tell us a driver was speeding away from police on saratoga, hit a person. police arrested the man. as for the person hit, taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. here's the latest on the baltimore county couple accused of sexually assaulting kids and using them for pornography. the fbi is now in on this investigation. john nicklas and shannon honea were arrested last week after police found video evidence of child ponnography in their middle river home. according to court documents the assaults happened at both the couple's home and at an atlanta hotel room but police also think that the pair taped children at a third location out of state. that is why the fbi is now in on the investigation. one other update. during the bail review a judge decided to pull the $5 million bond available for shannon

honea. she's now being held without bail. police advise us to get the word out, if you know of children who may have been in contact with the suspects call this number, the crimes against children's unit, 410-853-3650. family, friends and community will remember the people killed in a helicopter crash on i-70 near hagerstown. in all four people were killed in last month's crash. three employees of a frederick-based flight school and their friend. the male will be held at the school -- the memorial will be held at the school. ntsb investigators have yet to determine what exactly caused this helicopter to crash. hundreds of post offices nationwide could be consolidating or closing, as part of a cost-cutting measure. in our area, it's not dodging the bullet. a few offices here could be closing including the one at the east point mall, fells point, the franklin station, mount washington station and also the towson town center.

officials say these locations were picked as possibilities because they are small and not as busy as the rest. basketball star carmelo anthony, coaching star gene shue, and a lot of big names have gone through the halls of towson catholic for the past 86 years but sherrie johnson live with one more shot at keeping this school open. >> reporter: good morning. a hearing is scheduled for later this morning right here at baltimore county circuit court. to try to keep towson catholic high school open. the archdiocese of baltimore and other defendants filed a motion for dismissal against a lawsuit aiming to force towson catholic high school to stay open for the coming school year. the lawsuit was filed july 14th by two parkville residents and two catholic -- towson catholic parents. the lawsuit stated that the school and archdiocese broke promises to students by deciding to close. that is when a baltimore law firm filed a motion to dismiss

saying there's no contractual or other arrangement between the parties binding towson catholic to stay open. the archdiocese says the school is closing because of dwindling funds and low enrollment. that hearing is scheduled to start at 9:30 this morning. reporting live in towson, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. 6:52. how about the putty hill panthers? they hope to bring a victory home this week after working hard and winning big all year long. the baseball team is flying to puerto rico for the world series tournament. the 12 and 13-year-olds are on one of six u.s. teams to compete in the world series for club level teams. first game tomorrow night. they are leaving from laguardia in a few hours. lifeguards across the state will be converging on one beach to show what they've got. showing off their life saving talents at the state lifeguard competition, gunpowder falls state park. challenges including a 100-mile run, 500-yard swim.
